What's the relation between HCC Core and HCC Remote?

They both represent a view into what the core system is doing - one is local, another is remote (from anywhere on Internet). The picture on this page represents the same system as pictures on HCC Core page - only on the remote, there are six zones represented (as opposed to eleven on the local control panel).

Will this app work for me?

Only if you already have the HCC Core operational and configured for remote access. Read more...

Why does the app need access to contacts?

The whole Home Climate Control ecosystem relies on account security features offered by Google and hence requires permissions to access them.

Going slightly deeper - it actually needs GET_ACCOUNTS permission to choose which account to use for authentication, but that one belongs to CONTACTS group, and due to the mechanism Android uses since API level 23, that's the one being requested.

Does this work if I have 2-step verification enabled?

Yes.

Can I use this app to control more than one remote system?

Yes, as long as zone names are unique.

What does "Free quota exceeded, come back tomorrow" mean?

At this point, the cloud server is powered by a free service with limited resources. This means that the quota has been exceeded (not necessarily by you). Quota resets every 24 hours, at midnight GMT-7.
